Ticket #2236 (Modules & Gadgets: Complexity & User Friendliness) created

(Using Bodhi 2.2.0 with Enlightenment 0.17.0)

Modules/Gadgets? are very basic components need to be user friendly. They have become more complex in this version. Modules & gadget are really the same thing, why 2 GUIs?

Suggestion: Merge or rethink the whole Gadget/Module? thing.

This is one of many possible solutions: Modules include gadgets and config options. Split the Module GUI into a Gadget tab and a Configuration Option tab. It would make things clearer from the outset. Right now, you have to load a module and try to figure out what it does!

Gadgets would list all available gadget modules and ONE click would load and add the gadgets to desktop, shelf, or hover layer (god knows that is!) directly (that is what everybody wants!). There is no need for 2 separate GUIs... if someone loads a module, it is because he/she wants to add it! It also makes guides more complex: load in one GUI and the open Gadget GUI to add.

The configuration tab could list what is available and explain that enabling (see bug #2235) a module adds it to the Settings Panel.

What the heck is Hover (Key Toggle)? I am an advanced user and have no idea what it is. 'Layers' is also a complex concept, much beyond beginner level. You can have hover without 'configuring layers' (just list hover, and explain it, in the 'desktop, shelf, hover layer' options above).

This is one avenue and there might be better ways. What is for sure is that the current Module/Gadget? set up is bad. Gadgets are fundamental features of E17 and need to be very easy to add, even for a beginner.
